01 Oct The Best of the Bay
On Thursday 12th October South Devon College held a taste-filled evening at their Horizons Restaurant. It was a unique opportunity to sample world-class local seafood from seven of the Bay’s leading chefs, all in one evening… And what’s more, Hunt’s Cider were able to be part of the fantastic event!
The mouthwatering menu consisted of:
Roasted scallop, parsnip puree, verjus, spring onion and golder saltana butter, Lardo iberico and fennel pollen – Simon Hulstone, The Elephant
Markerel ceviche with Mermaid’s Ruin gin, seaweed, sea vegetables, pink peppercorns and pink pickled onions – Barry George, Cantina
Torquay lobster Thermidor, green salad and courgette chips – Tom Ward, Harbour Kitchen
Roasted hake, crispy squid, samphire, pancetta croquette, tomato and pancetta foam – Jordan Halfield – Pier Point Restaurant
Brixham white crab meat with lemon mayonnaise and devilled brown meat –
Oliver Stacey – No 7 Fish Bistro
Cured red mullet with fennel and orange – Mitch Tonks, The Seahorse
Blackberry yoghurt parfait, poached apple, honeycombe, pickled blackberries, lemon meringue, apple sorbet and lemon balm – Ashley Hamilton, The Curious Kitchen
It was such a pleasure to be involved with such a great event showcasing what our Bay has to offer! All the students, chefs and organisers really did do an amazing job.
